Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the youngest child of singer Dionne Warswick and gospel music legend Cissy Houston. Whitney Elizabeth Houston grew up in a musical household. Whitney's mother and her started singing professionally in the church of New Hope Baptist of Newark when Whitney was only 15 years old. They performed the back vocals in Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. After that, she began to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls and Jermaine as well as her mom. Her first gig was as a lead performer for the New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her vocal quality work attracted attention from the major label Arista which she joined in 1983. The album she released as her debut Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album of the debut artist. It featured a number of hits like How Will I Know You Give Good Love Saving all My Love For you and The Most Beautiful Love of All. It allowed her to achieve seven US charts-topping singles in a row which beat the Beatles. Album sold in US 3,000,000 copies and then increased to 25 million world-wide. This brought her first of the six Grammy Awards she has won. The Whitney album followed in 1987 and the singles How Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to further build upon the success of her first album. It was, however, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most well-known performers. Though the movie was not very well received, nor did her performance, the soundtrack to the film's Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You hit the top of both the singles and album charts across the US for a period of time. She sold 44,000,000 copies. Their daughter Bobbi was born March of 1993, the year after she wed Bobby Brown. Around this time that her widely documented drug use began and by 1996 she was a daily drug user.
